Professional Bio

Dr. Sharon Malley served as the special education specialist for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, leading the special education team contributing to the National Core Arts Standards and developing and managing the first VSA Intersections forum in 2012 and forum and conference in 2013. Her specialties within the disability field are intellectual disability and autism, and arts education and special education. She worked as a special education teacher, therapeutic recreation specialist, university adjunct professor, consultant to local governments and non-profits and founded and directed an arts and disabilities non-profit organization. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, has written and edited books and book chapters, and is the co-editor of the 2018 compendium of scholarly work: The Handbook of Arts Education and Special Education. She holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Georgia, and Masters of Arts in Education from George Washington University.
